Hi Peeps,
Drove the car last thing Fri evening, went to drive it today & the drivers side mat is wet!!, i don't know how this could have happened when we have had no rain & nothing else is wet.....
This is the 2nd time i have noticed it in the space of a few weeks, again its not been raining so don't think it came from outside.
The windscreen was replaced recently if this helps!.
As a lady car novice would really appreciate some help/advice.
Thanks in advance :)

Sorry its a new shape Hyundai Santa Fe 06 reg x

Make, model and year of vehicle will help,

it's probably your heater matrix leaking.

Sorry gave the info as requested as above.
This all happened after the windscreen was replaced, do you think it could be related. Its not everyday, its every few weeks if that helps!

Have you been using the aircon recently? :p

My money is on the water drainage for the aircon being blocked.....

Ever seen the condensation on a cold glass in the summer? well your aircon does exactly the same thing, it collects water/condensation, that water has to drain off somewhere and usually through a little tube onto the ground under the car.
Tube gets blocked = wet carpets

Yer use it most mornings, been told to run it to stop possible blocking!, no condensation in the mornings recently though as its been hot!. But got to say the carpets underneath are not wet, its just the rubber/carpet mat in the drivers seat that's wet!

What Stryder says is true, the tube usually runs down the side of the centre console thru the floor and out on to the ground.

If the tube is blocked, usually by dirt, the water fills up and makes the carpet wet.

Have you checked any of the vehicle fluids under the bonnet?

That's not actually why you should run it.....

Sounds like urban myth that one. Like the one my mates grandmother spouts about highly valuable crystals in fridges/freezers and how you shouldn't tip them up because the crystals will fall out. :rotfl:

The blockage comes from leaves/cr4p being sucked in from outside, the aircon drainage will be at lowest point in the system and the afore mentioned cr4p will naturally fall into that point whether the aircon is off/on.

But you should run it none the less. It's like most things, use it or loose it.... So no harm done :)

It's a very simple procedure to clear the drainage ducts, while your at it you might want to (or get someone else to) clear the windscreen water run off holes/channels too (under the bonnet) as they're bound to be gunked up as well.

Even if that turns out not to be the problem, it's a job that should be done eventually anyway.

LOL! will try to listen to real advice & not urban myths ;)
I will ask someone as i can't even reach that far into/around the car, am only 5'1!. On a serious note, i hope its that as the warranty on the car is finished & i don't fancy a trip to the rip-off dealers :(
Thanks to you all for getting back to me so fast, i really appreciate it, i wish a good night to my fellow MSE'rs xx

Read your owners manual, check usual fluids, water, brake & clutch, screen wash.

If the water level for the radiator is low, it's possible thats where the water is coming from. If not...

Take out the mats and carpets from the front footwells...

dry the floor as much as possible, dust lightly with talcum powder.

Check up the sides and bulkhead for signs of water running down.

On VW passats the 2 drains on the bulkhead near the battery under the windscreen block up and the water runs down the heater outlets and soaks the carpet , may be a similar problem, have a quick look and see if yours has bulkhead drains and check they are clear
