And I know that my charity shop book purchases will be doing good, saving the lives of orphaned kittens all around the world.

How can you live with yourself knowing that every e-book you buy, nudges the Amazon chief executive, Jeff Bezos, even higher up the Forbes Rich List?

Because Im not paying for them perhaps?

And besides I hate cats orphaned or otherwise... I wouldnt buy books from a charity shop anyway, never have, I hate second hand books so even without my kindle the kittens would be getting no help from me

Off to read my Kindle now and thanks but Im not keen on the crystals I think Ill stick with my purple leather case its quite nice and does the job (oh and it wasnt bought on Amazon either :) )

Hmmm, tossing up between kindle or tablet..... will spend a lot more time considering before birthday season is upon us.

Take the tablets before reading books on a tablet, use a dedicated reader. If you like reading no comparison, if you want a birthday present list suggest an eBook+£200 vouchers for books:D

Agreed, no comparison on reading between a tablet and electronic ink reader like the Kindle. The iPad and its brethren are brilliant multitaskers, but if you want to read for any length of time you'll much appreciate the lack of eye fatigue on the Kindle versus the strain that a backlit tablet screen will provide.

Yeah, that smell of cat wee and musty old people does put some people off buying secondhand books. But as I often reassure my wife - you don't look at the mantlepiece when poking the fire.

curse you - i hope that the kindle battery fails while you read it under the duvet (with a kindle you still need a torch to do that! :rotfl:), that the purple fades on your kindle case, oh, and that the fleas of a thousand cats infest your bed!

EDIT: Anna Sewell's classic Black Beauty, originally published in 1877, costs an outrageous 70p for the kindle edition from Amazon.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Beauty-Autobiography-Horse/dp/B001INVUC0/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1306277702&sr=1-3

There must be something very special about the Kindle edition from Amazon, because the Gutenberg version of Black Beauty is F.O.C.! http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/271

Aww sorry but as Im night shift tonight, ensuring the people of the west of scotland are as safe as they can be all things considered, Im at my desk with my wee desk lamp (£2.50 from Sainsburys - courtesty of the grabbit while you can forum ;) ) drinking copious amounts of coffee. Thankfully my kindle is all charged up so I should be ok for about the next 10 years on one full charge.

70p?? For a book - do you think Im made of money... mind you the fact its old lady pee smell free I guess its a bargain ;)

    Looks free to me.
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

I get sexually aroused by the very idea - I'm going to buy even more books now.

Is it just me or does Jeff Bezos look distinctly reptilian?
