I am sure there are industries your son could get into, it's just the luck of the draw really all i can say is keep him motivated to his search for work. How far is he prepared to travel? possibly the next town? Kids have the same here where i live where the traditional industries have either relocated to china or gone altogether.
He will travel where he needs to, but it will have to be on public transport0

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

When I left school most of those sort of places near my home didn't want someone like me as they required experience, which obviously as someone looking for my first job I didn't have! My first proper job was in an office which didn't want any experience, they just wanted someone with working fingers to press the photocopier buttons...
Having worked at least 30 hours a week since the age of 15 I find this very very hard to believe. For a start, 18 year olds are cheap and easier to train than older adults I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0

Take a look at the 'support each other looking for a job' thread, lots of will, very little way.:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
