Might be related to installing updated Nvidia drivers, as this is the only commonality I'm seeing from others having crashes in the last few weeks. I'll try to reproduce it later on a VM, but going to enjoy the sun for now!

never had a problem. reducing the frequency of updates to daily may help in avoiding rogue updates - which happen to various vendors from time to time

Yeah it probably would, but shouldn't have to; AVs in general are so behind zero-day threats that each update could be crucial.

Never personally experienced rogue updates in years of Malwarebytes pro or even longer with Avira, but Avast had 3 significant bad updates over the four months I've tried it out this year, and apparently what I experienced is a known bug.

    Hi Russ

I'm getting problems too with BSOD. It's been happening since I installed Avast. I've written on their forum about it too and sent them a minidump thingie. I'll let you know what the response is.

At first they said it was because I had some traces of AVG and AntiVir in my registry, but I have now removed them and yet am still having problems.

    Thanks.

In the end I just reinstalled Windows and went back to Avira.

I needed to do this as the computer became unusually slow to respond after Avast caused the crash. Even after Avast was uninstalled and the computer temporarily had no antivirus, it felt instead like I had horribly bloated computer with multiple antivirus programs installed - very frustrating. Nothing that I've read from Avast about the bug explains this.

I know they'd recently had a conflict (causing freezes for some people) with Malwarebytes Pro but that's been fixed. Then again, they also claim that Version 6.0.1125 "solved a problem in aswSP.sys that could lead to a system crash" yet this was the version that caused the crash in the first place on mine.

Avast was the one unstable element on the computer, too many programming bugs and too many bad web shield updates over the 4 or so months I trialled it.

I think there is a specific setup that is leading to this BSOD...I have seen a couple of threads about it, and not everyone is suffering...

I had issues recently with BSODS on one of my machines, that they couldn't pin down but went away when avast was removed, that was a few versions ago though and I haven't had a chance to try some of the newer builds...

I think we are waiting on a new build to fix this issue. (from reading in the forum)
