If thats true its the first time I have heard of DLA being a reason for disability consession where as being registered as disabled is everywhere and anywhere.

I have lived in 4 counties/boroughs over years, and none of them carry a disability register any more.

Some councils still do, but most now use information gained via bus pass applications/blue badge applications and any social services packages that may be applicable.

As far as general concessions go, a copy of my DLA award letter has always been accepted by every company that offer special prices etc., to disabled customers/visitors.

Why are disabled people not given the facility to register any more, and get a card?
Because they don't do it any more officially.
If some Councils continue to keep a register, then that's up to them.

Yes I'm disabled, and no, my Council doesn't keep a register.

My OH had to show his DLA award letter at St James's Park to get concessionary disabled tickets for the football. Many other places we've been to ask to see his blue badge as proof of disability which can be a bit difficult when the badge is needed for the parked car!

We're in Durham and I didn't realise they still have a disabled register, we normally just show OH's DLA award letter or his blue badge. If he's wearing shorts they normally take his metal leg as proof! :D

Most places still ask for registration of disability and only mention DLA when its brought up, most websites completly ignore proof of DLA as evidence of disability for consessions.

If he wants to register as disabled ring social services, it a handy card to have and it dosnt have private information on it like DLA letters do.
