The national scheme for registering as disabled finished some years ago, along with the quota system for employment. Some LAs keep a register of disabled people which can sometimes lead to confusion between the two uses of the term.

I have never had a problem using DLA as proof of disability.

Was being a recepiant of DLA ever listed as a consession?

No it never is but when you contact them they look into it and acccept a DLA award but being registed as disabled is always listed as a consession.

I get Higher rate of both componants DLA but my registory card is always accepted without having to provide paperwork that is private to me.

If you email the National Theatre they will send you details of their Access List. One of the qualifying criteria is DLA. It is also listed on the website for the Royal Centre in Nottingham.

I think you need to rephrase your post!

Some councils maintain registers, some don't. Criteria also vary.

I've found several places (theatres spring to mind), where staff still believe a local council maintains a register (and refuse concessions because you are 'not registered'), when in fact it stopped doing so 20 years ago!

    It's a mess.

The legislation changed in '95 with the DDA when you self certified as disabled but it was so new everyone ignored it and it wasnt 20 years ago yet.

Self certification has been ignored from the DDA to the Equality act till today but its still the legal definition of disability, registration is still legal if your LA still compiles the register and it entitles card holders to concessions without question.

If thats true its the first time I have heard of DLA being a reason for disability consession where as being registered as disabled is everywhere and anywhere.

You can check for yourself if you don't believe me! :p

At times you present a very narrow view on things - if you haven't experienced it then it can't be true. Perhaps you need to be open to the views of others a little more?

Not in my experience at all. DLA Award letter is very often requested as proof of Dissability, I've never been asked for my card and when I use it often people don't even know what it is and have never seen such a thing before because in many authorities it is not done for all disabilities.

Also no need for the constant digs at the other user, wether you like her or rate her posts is irrelevant to the use of a little civility.

I may do that, its most likely a sign of my Asperges but I do try be subjective and I am registered disabled and deaf and my card is accepted much more readily than a letter that we can all fake on our computor.

If we could fake a benefits letter on the computer i'm sure a registered disabled card whatever one of those looks like could be faked on a computer too.

I have never ever been asked for a registered disabled card just proof of disability which can be supported by sight of a letter from dla. I've never been asked if i'm registered disabled i just ask for criteria for disabled and what proofs are acceptable.

I've never lived anywhere that's had a general disability register.
