Which phone -= Galaxy 2 or Iphone 4???

My phone contract is due to end 1st week of June 2011 and I basically do not know which phone to get. I am drawn to the Iphone 4 or Galaxy 2. I can get good deals on both.

What are peoples views on either or can anyone recommend another phone which is just as good?

I mainly use phone, text, web and interested in all the other apps Iphone and galaxy offer.

Is one phone really better than the other or are we all begin sucked into some big marketing campaign from Apple and Samsung?

Please help me make up my mind and share your experiences of either phone...good, bad or the ugly!

Thanks.

Well both phones are good. My better half got an IP4 on contract last month and now I have just bought an SGS2 on contract today! I would say go for the SGS2 as it is the most exciting phone on the market and beats the Iphone 4 spec to spec. Maybe Iphone 5 might surpass it but even that is open to debate. Despite being a better phone, I find that you can get cheaper deals for SGS2 compared to IP4. So if you are not a diehard Apple fan and want to objectively go for the better option, go for the SGS2.

Mind you both phones are good so even if you heart drives you to buy the IP4, you aren't losing too much. I have been playing around with my spouse's IP4 so much that she has had to remind me that is HER phone! However that should come to an end in a couple of days when I get my SGS2 delivered...

The deal my spouse got for IP4 was 12 month Vodafone : Phone for £99, monthly cost £50, 1200 min, unlimited texts, 750 MB data, 25MB per day free data roaming in EU. Got the deal from Carphone warehouse via Quidco (£80 cashback)

The deal I have signed up for SGS2 is: 24 month Tmobile: Phone for £99, monthly cost £20.42, 300 min, 300 texts, 500MB data. Got the deal from Phones4u via Topcashback (£45.45 cashback).

    Hope that helps!

Galaxy S2 definitly although you might want to wait as long as possible as a revised one is supposed to be released in June so you may be able to get the current S2 cheaper.

The galaxy s2 is brilliant for videos, pics and browsing and very fast at doing it where as the iphone4 is now old technology thats starting to show its age.
  • Have to agree with bengalknights about the Galaxy S2, I have the Galaxy S but even though its the older version the new android 2.3 firmware has made it much quicker than Iphone 4 that my friend has.

Samsung GS2 is a newly released phone, if you get an iphone4 it is being replaced rumoured to be within next 4 months. So either wait for iphone 5 or get the Samsung.

Check out some vids on youtube comparing browsing speeds of iphone (and others) to SG2. I dont think there is any other phone on the market that comes close the SG2 spec-wise and it's still cheaper than an iPhone - dont get sucked in by the Apple hype ;)

Go play with them in a store.

What I think is good bad and ugly (I have an iPhone) will be different to what an Android user thinks, and may be different to what you think.

Apple have more Apps and to me have the edge on usability, one thing to consider is that Apple have a yearly cycle. There are quotes above that the Galaxy 2 is a little behind the IP4 spec wise, but generally the IP4 can hold it's own. The Galaxy2 is a newly released phone, the Iphone 4 has been out a year. Iphone 5 could (at this point it's all guess work) be 1000 x faster at browsing, the the galaxy, you really need to consider the Galaxy 2 to Iphone 5 (assuming the June release) to be comparing similar phones

Whichever you go for once you start your tied in to that system, apple apps won't run on android and vice versa, so changing phones next time you either have to buy another of the same OS or throw away the money spent on apps and start again.

For me spec wise and usability wise if i had use Android i would stick with Android likewise for IOS4 ..

Android is not a phone its an OS with many models from top to budget range across many makes .

As a personal choice and value for money plus i found all the apps i wanted and phone did everything i wanted and was not locked down .
    Bought .
    SGS1 then SGS 2.

I love Android, I hate "Samsung Touch Wiz". It's full of superfluous crap (like that rippling water effect thing) that's just using up battery life. (I know stock Android has stuff like this, but for some reason it just winds me up more on Touch Wiz. Stock Android is nice enough as it is, I get they might not like the stock music app (or whatever), but why replace the whole thing? (making it slower, harder to update)

As for the iPhone, I've not had one since the 3G which became so slow I had to sell it. I'd say it'll cost more, but hold it's value much better.
