obviously NOT, which has been my argument with the supplier every years since yr 3 (as fruit will not show until yr 3), which they have not bothered to reply.
It would be useful for us all if you were to give us the name of this supplier - then no-one else will end up "believing the tin"...and wasting their money.
Under the Trades Description Act I would imagine that they cannot say a tree is "self-fertile" unless it really is.
I would try threatening them with that Act and publicity if they dont "come through with the goods" (ie a refund).0 -
This is 10 years ago FGS. No ones going to take one iota of interest.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

They will if the firm is still selling them and still describing them as "self fertile".0

My grandmother planted a pear tree in my parents garden in 1972. It grew fine and strong but bore no fruit until the year after her death - 1990!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I bought 8 £3.99 fruit trees from Aldi this year and one cherry and two apples already have fruit on them and the rest didn't flower this year. You will nearly always get a better set if there is something nearby to pollinate it - even if it does say self pollinating/fertile on the box.
Heartly agree with LE; just get another tree. Otherwise it will be same story year in year out.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

these were supplied by vanmeuwen.
and at the time they did not require any pollinating partner as i asked this at the time and was told they were self pollinating and as the 2 trees would help each other0 -

Write it off and buy 2 other trees.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I weould contact the Advertsing Standard Agency, with a copy of the current web-site showing they are listed as self-fertile.
Then write a complaint to the comapny making the point that they told you they were self fertile and are still advertsing them as such when one is self-sterile and the other dodgy. Ask for your money back and buy a couple of pollinators. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
