Overnight stopover M6 southbound

I'm looking for a relatively cheap hotel to stopover midweek for one night when travelling from Scotland down to Devon. Thought about Lancaster/Preston area. Can anyone offer any recommendations for a decent place not too far from the M6? Looked at the Holiday Inn but felt it was still quite pricey despite using the links on here for cheap stays. Many thanks

there are lots of Premier Inns on the M6 route or very nearby :). We used the Carlisle one on the route north at Christmas, it was great, literally 5 minutes drive from the motorway.

Lots of B&B options on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales - try Kirkby Lonsdale, only 10 minutes from M6.

Two Premier Inns just south of Preston (Cuerden Way & Craven Drive) both within a few hundred yards of the M6.

The 5 minutes away site lets you search for places that are within easy access of motorway junctions - you can search specifically on accommodation at a particular junction(s) of any motorway

If it's just for a stopover, the Lancaster M6 travelodge is ok.

Looked recently too, but decided to just take the hit and drive it all in one as we'd need 2 rooms with 6 of us.
We're 450 miles from Paignton, originally planned to do 300 one day, 150 the next stopping around Birmingham/M5.

The AA routeplanner tells me we are 650 miles away from where we're going, and although we considered driving down in one go, we'd prefer to break the journey so we arrive at our destination not feeling too tired for a wedding the next day. Unfortunately the return journey home we have no option but to do it in one go, but at least we'll have a day to recover before going back to work!
