Santander won't give me my money

I recently bought some tickets for an event for me a group of friends and paid for all the tickets. My friends then transferred the money into my account for their share.
All of the monies were credited to my account with the exception of one which shows the money coming in but that Santander have not cleared the funds as they claim it is a fraudulent transaction. I have advised them that it isn't and the money should be credited to my account. They have refused to do this and have had the money for a month without contacting me to tell me, I only noticed when I checked my statement.
Are they allowed to do this? And if so how long for? They claim they need to speak to the person who sent the money and I should tell them to phone in to speak to Santander. Till this happens they will not release my money.
Is this right? Are they allowed to do it? What options do I have?

Why hasn't the person who sent the money called Santander?
That would be the easiest and fastest way of sorting this.
Otherwise, you could go down the formal complaint route, but that would probably take far longer.0 -
How much are we talking about here?0

The person who sent the money is a friend of a friend so I've not got round to speaking to them yet. The money should have been credited on 22nd April but only when I phoned yesterday to query why my available balance and current balance didn't match did I find out that they had retained the money. They hadnt contacted me at all about the issue.
The payment in question is for £70 give or take change so money I could really do with having especially as it is rightfully mine.
I am going to try and contact my friend and ask them to contact their friend but am not too happy that this is the path I have to take.0 -
If you show them copies of the receipt for the tickets you should be ok.
However if your 'friend' has used shall we say an iffy card or somebody' else card then the fraud might be at his/her end.
Has your friend being tackled about this? Ask them to provide evidence that their account has been debited.0 -
Might be worth a punt, the person who the tickets is for is a pensioner who is the great aunty of my wifes best friend so I trust the account the monies were transferred from is genuine.
Could do without the hastle to be honest, the wife is due to drop and day so the added stress and worry doesn't help. Tickets don't arrive for another few months so want to find a resolution before then so I get my money0 -

I would hope that jonesy_mjj junior will get a bank account with a decent bank or building society, you could use your paternity leave to get yourself somewhere decent as well

Had word back from Santander today who admitted they dripped a bollock on this one. Turned out if was originally a Santander account the money originated from, the payer confirmed the transfer was genuine but one department in Santander failed to tell another one and so my money wasn't released. Such a simple !!!! up shouldn't have been so difficult to resolve!0
