It sounds like an old wife's tale to me. I've used Pantene since it first came out and still have hair.

I find Pantene makes my hair disgusting. The silicome builds up and within a week my hair reeks of stale shampoo, yuk.

Pantene is particularly bad if you dye your hair, because the silicone prevents the dye taking properly - it won't look as good to start with, and will fade much quicker.

My hair really doesn't like Pantene stuff, the build up I get from it is horrible.

I use Naked Detox shampoo and conditioner now and never get build up which is nice, it's nor tested on animals either :j.

I was told not to use Pantene many years ago, because of the build up of product on my hair. It left it with a really horrible texture. I now use Aussie miracle products which are excellent.

Same here- my hairdresser asked which shampoo I was using as I was beginning to have some problems, mainly an itchy scalp and my hair just didn't look quite right. He told me not to use Pantene. He did recommend something else but wasn't selling it. I do colour my hair. By the way- I was actually impressed with Pantene to begin with but obviously the build of it wasn't good for me.

Weird....I've tried expensive (Aveda) and less expensive shampoos over the years, and to be honest, Pantene works best for me. I have blonde highlights and its the only one that makes my hair soft, shiny, bouncy and not dry in the slightest.

I've always used the green one, but am using the green and pink one (coloured & dry) and it's doing the same job so far!

My hairdresser never asks what I use.....
  • Yes Pantene is not considered good for the health of your hair. Obviously lots of people use it and are happy with it's effects so it does work for people, but it's not great for your hair.

I found this quite an interesting thread. Having had my first brazilian keratin treatment in Feb, I've had to use sulphate and sodium free products ever since.

One of the conditioners I have frequently used and like for years is Pantene, the smooth and sleek one. Anyway, luckily the sulphate free shampoo and conditioners I have been using have been just fine thankfully.

My treatment had mostly worn off, so one week before going for another keratin treatment, I thought I'd go back to using my old shampoo and conidtioners. I had thought I'd enjoy going back to using them, even just for a few days.

But how wrong I was. I now hate the feel of them, they feel so false and fake, and just feel to me as though they coat my hair but not much else. I'm genuinely surprised at this, I've used Pantene for over 10 years, yet 3 months on the sulphate free stuff and now I can't stand it anymore. Over the 6 days that I used the Pantene, my hair condition suddenly got noticeably worse and worse too.

So I think that's put me off it for good now - only problem is I have piles of the stuff in my cupboard still!
