Like I said to start with can you charge vat on a second hand car?

Yes. If the company selling it is VAT registered, VAT is due on it - whether or not they advertise the price inclusive of it or not doesn't alter the fact that whatever is paid for it, a VAT element will be payable to HMRC.

Thank for clearing that up, think I may have missed the point with the vat.
On this order purchase form was the break down of costings
    1, car price
    2,vat
    3,gap insurance
    4,tyre protection insurance
    5,pure guard paint protection

I asked for gap insurance as its a bit daft not to have it. But the other 2 I knew nothing about.
Probably why the order purchase form was stashed in the folder.
Would a sales man not get a percentage for selling these products?

    Them 2 items alone came to £378(probably +vat) :)

Anyways you learn from your mistakes.

Hmm well if you shop at places like kosco, macro, bookers and staks
You'd of noticed a little ticket belowe every thing they sell that says x amont plus vat. Baring a few items that are inclusive of vat.
