What is this pipe on the exterior of my house for?

its called a black hole vent and looks like someone has stuffed the bags in to stop the wind coming into the house. inside the pipe it should have some gizmo to slow the air down coming into the house.

OK thanks i will report it to the council if it should have proper fittings on it.

I'm afraid when they open it back up, and reinstall the vent through to the living room, you'll find out why it was blocked up previously.

I would bet that the house has had a gas fire at some point and had a back-boiler, probably still find it behind the plasterboard in the living room.

It is a vent my rents have one the side of there house. It was into the cupboard under the stair where the boiler used to live I presume that was its purpose. Have you got a gas fire in the living room?

Could have be a vent for an air conditioning unit.

is it a missle silo? May be a launch site? Did the previous tennant work for the government?
