Dla decision in 2 weeks good or bad news?

I submitted my dla forms 2 weeks ago, and got a phone call yesterday to go over a few questions with regards to my night care needs, in which the caller came up with a few options to solve them. He then said i should hear from them with a desicion within the next 2 weeks!! I'm just wondering if this could be a good thing or a bad thing as it is so quick?

  • they actually suggested a commode in the bedroom to avoid going downstairs, i did say that wasn't really a practical idea as the room isnt big enough

This happened to me when i first applied for dla. The lady suggested a comode in the bedroom. I was awarded middle rate care. Good luck x

    Thankyou to all posters:D
  • So there may be hope yet lol. i always thought they sent a doctor out or called you in for a medical?
  • I've been fighting with dla since 7/12/10 when they said they'd had a phone call about me. Since then i've lost two appeals-seen a polish doctor who only spoke broken english-been told can walk 300 metres-when disagread with this, changed next appeal that can walk 200 metres slowly, seems to me they change the goal posts to there benifit, the more you help yourself, the worse it gets. Not at risk of falls, had doctor and ot letters confirming that i do fall, including pic of bruises and shuffle rather than walk........ I have arthrits in knees, back, neck, hips and hands, having stair lift fitted with 100% grant and i'm now more a less house bound. I've never felt so stressed and ill-got tribunal to go through now and for two pins i would just give up on everything. Good luck with yours luv-fingers crossed for you x
  • I recently had a WRO help me with a DLA Tribunal. He advised me that whether there are ways round problems or not, the fact that the problems exist is not obviated.
There may be a way round, for example, toiletting issues due to inability to get upstairs to use toilet. This problem could be solved with a downstairs wc, but does not change the fact that the mobility issue exists in the first place.

The second time I applied for DLA, I got a friendly 'phone call to check some details; the social worker who filled it in had made a couple of mistakes. I got an acceptance soon after: LRC indefinitely.
  • At my last renewal I got a decision within about 2 weeks and got indefinite high rate care and high rate mobility. So a decision that quickly doesn't necessarily mean it will be bad news.

I can't comment on the phone call from DLA. They have never called me. The only time I've spoken to them was when I phoned them several years ago after another renewal, we discussed my needs but I still had to send in additional evidence.

I'm sorry but I would disagree with that. If it can be shown that there are ways round things that help to avoid having problems with care or mobility they are and should be taken into account.
Just because the needs are there is not sufficient, you have to show that those needs cannot reasonablly be accomodated by using special equipment. Do you honestly think that you could argue that you are unable to get up and down stairs for example, when a stair lift would solve that particular problem?

I think it's more a case of, say a person has a leg amputated, but can walk with an artificial leg. It doesn't change the fact the the leg has been amputated - the fact the person can walk with two legs doesn't mean he has two legs iyswim.

ETA: I didn't say whether I agreed with it or not as that's irrelevant and my understanding at the time was that this was how the law is interpreted and applied not something which is subject to the opinion of, for example, tribunal panel members.
