Well I went to my local Tesco (24hrs) and Morrisons (open until 9pm) yesterday evening at 6.30-7.30-it was rubbish. I got no bargains. I think I was too late for Tesco-the veg/bread had all gone (although they did have a small selection of meat, fish and cheese that had only been reduced by a third). Ther were no signs of it being reduced further, and it wasnt very inspiring anyway.

In Morrisons the meat and fish had gone. There were some half price fruit/veg and very little bread, again half price. I couldnt be bothered to hang around to see what happened.

Also had a look in Lidl - nothing, and M & S-they had a couple of tiny packs of cooked meat reduced to £2-that was it.

I just can't seem to get my timing right.

Silly bargains last night in Sainsburys.
Large packs of pork chops down to 69p from £4 (5 chops per pack).
Loads of stuff reduced to 19p (ready meals etc.), large pizzas down to 89p and best of all,

Sainsbury's Ultimate Outdoor Bred Pork Chipolata, Taste the Difference x12 400g

    Save 59p was £2.59 now £2.00

    Down to just 10p per pack....................got a £1's worth.

Both freezers groaning now and I must stop buying.............until the next lot.
I/we do buy stuff and pass on to friends/neighbours.

I started doing this a few weeks ago, completely by accident, I was in shopping and noticed they had some reductions. I'm amazed at the prices you can get these reductions at. And for us, Sainsburys is the best store. Still trying to figure out if there is a pattern because I notice some nights reductions are better than others, even after the 2nd reduction sticker is placed on. Some reduce it to half price but some just seem to do what they want, even though that's probably not the case.

So far we've got the following

2 pack of Taste the Difference Lamb Leg Steaks was £7.00 down to £1
4 packs of spiced lamb casserole down from £5 to £1
    4 birthday cakes £10 to £1
TTD Sausages really silly prices of 50p
Thai Green Curry £3.97 down to 30p - we've bought loads of these over a few days.
Thai Red Curry £3.97 down to £1
Loads and loads of Croissants for 10p a pack - I put these in the fridge, they taste just as good when you put them in the oven for 10 mins.
Beef Joint £9.00 down to £2
Organic Chicken £9 down to £2
Sirloins steaks £7 down to £1
Minced lamb £3.?? down to 50p
Lots of bread, desserts cakes.....the list goes on and on.

My only regret is that I didn't start doing this sooner.

We also try Tesco but they are hit and miss. My Asda has never seemed that good at whoopsies.

We get customers that buy things in the reduced because its in the reduced. Our store often has a lot of organic milk in the reduced. We get customers that clear the lot - sometimes it can be 20-30 pints.

What on earth do customers do with 30 pints of milk when the use by date is that day? Its the same customers week in week out!

BTW I did pick up a large TTD fish pie for 40p (do me for two teas)

i bulk buy cheap milk and freeze it
life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.

I was at a 24hr Tescos the other night at 10pm and was horrified at the young lad from bakery clearing the 'fresh' in store baked bread into the large clear big bin bags to chuck out
He must have had 5 of the massive wheelie crates full of it, I did ask if it was been thrown out and he replied 'yes, the manager doesnt reduce the instore bread at all!!'
It costs the store so little to bake so they chuck it out rather than reduce it
    Crazy huh?

its totally up to the stores management if they reduce stuff or not

I went to Sainsburys last night around 7.30pm, meat/dairy staff had got around to doing some 2nd sticker whoopsies but not a lot. Chicken drumsticks £1 instead of £2, Sirloin Steak £2.46 instead of £5.?? and a couple of Singapore noodles half price. The bread section however was amazing..... 10p for TTD croissants, paninis, muffins, sub rolls, pain au chocolat. Went to Tesco and they had loads of veg reduced to 5p, massive bags of carrots, spring greens, baby corn and I got a Me To You cake reduced from £8 to £2. So

Generally it's after 7.30 pm, but varies according to staff.
Last night it was just after 9pm.
We normally pop in on the way home form somewhere if passing - it's a bit of a game really, but we do pass stuff on (buy extra) when possible. A neighbour loves salmon and trout and we have had quite a bit of that in the past.
Monday does seem a good day for veg., possibly dated for just after the weekend??

There's a Greggs near me, and every morning before the shop opens to the public the staff clear out any unsold bread, cakes, pies etc. from the previous day.

The local smackheads gather at the appointed time, one asks for the "throw outs" and gets a huge bin bag size clear plastic bag filled up.

He takes it to his druggie mates on the grass verge and they divide up their spoils. Probably enough to feed 20 of them for at least three days...thus freeing up their benefits for more drugs.

I know this is a bit of a late reply, but I think it's good that your local Greggs does that.. If they truly are 'smackheads' it's unlikely they would spend very much money on food anyway, so probably doesn't make much difference to how much drugs they can buy and at least they are getting a bit of nutrition which they will really need.

I got a pack of 3 barbaque pork loins for 59p in morrisons today, 1 rib eye steak for 55p and one 'tender' steak for 55p :)
