FTotally agrees!
It's not good business sense to reduce items below 40%-50%, if a shop keeps doing that then all you will get is the 'bargain hunters' telling their friends, family, colleagues, everyone and then you'll lose good margin sales, plus hoards of people coming through the doors at closing time.. I call bargains special offers and there's lots of them!
Who wants short dated items anyway, by the time you eat some of it, it'll all be gone off... ewww!
They don't go off as they go straight into the freezer.0 -
Valk Scot-I know theyre all different but out of interest what time do you visit Tescos ?
Oops, sorry, missed this. About 7.30pm onwards is a good ballpark figure given that it's a 24 hour Tesco. If you're local to me though do me a favour and don't come on Mondays or Wednesdays...I've got enough competition, thanks!;)Val.0 -
Thanks VS-I won't add to the competition!0

We get customers that buy things in the reduced because its in the reduced. Our store often has a lot of organic milk in the reduced. We get customers that clear the lot - sometimes it can be 20-30 pints.
What on earth do customers do with 30 pints of milk when the use by date is that day? Its the same customers week in week out!
BTW I did pick up a large TTD fish pie for 40p (do me for two teas)
they might freeze it
can i just say, just because the reductions have been done at whatever time before dont expect them to be done at the same time every week as there can be many variables which dictate when they are done, just speaking from experience as many a customer would expect them to be done at same time every day, some even wanted stuff reduced at an earlier time but they got a very short answer being no can do,0 -
I noticed my Tesco store does the previous day whoopsies around 10am, I always go in and get loads of goodies for the freezer.:beer:0

I buy things that I wouldn't ordinarily buy and use it as a chance to experiment with cooking or to try new things that I wouldn't have bought.
If I buy more than I can use, I share with friends and neighbours. Nothing is wasted.
Tesco lose no money from myself as I do not spend there unless I cone off the winner.
No bargains = NO spending.
Actually they do lose , they are selling below costs . What the supermarkets should do is not keep their shelves as well stocked , as a just in case there is a run in x y and z ..Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
When you been to the supermarket reduction areas, have you noticed its the same things week in week out? If that's the case, the management need to reduce the amount of stock of these lines.
At our store, its hummous and Innocent veg pots. They have reduced the lines hummous, but sometimes the Innocent veg pots are on offer. People find the Innocent veg pots too expensive at £3.49. I buy them up in the reduced. Fills a hole when I have finished work at 8:30pm.0 -

well in theory you would have thought that would be easy to do, part of the problem is how staff rotate the stock as ive worked with staff who didnt rotate,
some things are hard to predict if they will sell, 1 day they could out by 6pm of 1 pint semi skim milk and the same day of the following week they could not sell at all0 -

I agree with that, because I see the same things reduced all the time. But one day the girl will only bring out 2 and the next she'll bring our 2 dozen. So clearly they sell more on some days and less on others.0 -

I remember helping out at another store about 5 miles from my store as that morning all of their chillers and freezers failed. I did find some yoghurts that had longer dates on the shop floor than what was in the chiller - and it was like 8 days! So spent about 5 mins in the chiller truck sorting out the yoghurts and put various yoghurts by date and putting out the shortest date first.
They asked me as I am willing to do emergency things like this and have a car!0
