Chasing in Coaxial cable - is it worth it?

Hi,

I am purchasing a Victorian home that needs a complete re-wire. I currently use Sky and since I need to make a mess of the house chasing in new electricity cables, I thought I might hide all the unsightly Coaxial cable for the Sky box in the walls. Does anyone know whether this is possible/advisable. I want Sky in two bedrooms, kitchen and two reception rooms.

thanks!

You need to post in Digital TV forum or maybe: In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving ....not Gas & Elec

We did it when we had our house rewired, the electricians put points downstairs and in all the bedrooms - not sure why we decided to do this as we have only ever used the one downstairs!

Its possible and advisable, it looks a lot neater. Only chase in some trunking with spare room, and add some draw strings to it so you can pull though cables for future requirements. I'd definitely run a couple of CAT5/6 anyway.

Are you planning to have Sky + in all rooms? Thats two feeds to each location. For four rooms thats an Octo LNB.
Won't most if not all the coaxes be routed round the outside of the property and brought in at a convenient point.

well, I will have 1 sky HD box and one sky plus with viewing cards. The rest will be the basic free stuff only on old boxes. The thing is I don't want cables clipped all over the exterior of the house. I want the cables to come into the loft and then chased down the walls from there. Nice and neat. replies are positive. looks like I can do it, just not sure to get a sparky to do it or an aerial guy??

From past experience of over 40 years it will definately be ok in the short term, I found that coax cable chased into walls did eventually deteriorate but the timescale seemed to be 15-20 years. Once this happens you just run new cables on the surface. ( You might not even live there for that length of time ! )

You could run the coax in trunking to facilitate replacement (overkill?).
I'd get a reliable satellite engineer in and use decent quality satellite grade coax.

Are you going to use wall plates?

Yes, I plan on using wall plates. The wall plate you posted looks like it is for Co-ax and the Standard aerial. Is that correct? thank you.
