How to Cancel Sky Before End of Contract

Hey guys,
I'm having some trouble with Sky. I signed a contract with them last year in October after the customer service adviser had reassured me that there would be no problem in canceling the contract before 12 months. I had told the guy that I am a EU student and that I wish to cancel the contract some time in May or June 2011, as I would not be staying in the UK after my term ends.
And here I am, May 20th 2011, ringing Sky only to find out that there is nothing I can do to get the contract terminated while the Sky representative kindly presented me with a lose-lose situation, all for myself.
I don't think I can find anyone I can trust who would be willing to take my Sky package and pay in my name, so I'm quite desperate, for I am not really prepared to pay 80 quid in advance for something I'm not going to use.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get this thing off my back ? Doesn't the fact that the guy who commissioned my contract told me fairy tales actually constitute a breach of contract from the get go ? I feel I've been ripped off from the very beginning

You can cancel anytime you like within the first 12 months, but as it's a 12 month minimum term you will have to pay any ETC due as a penalty within that period.
What were you told was the minimum term?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You can cancel anytime but you can never leave.:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0

So you knew it was a 12m minimum term contract? In which case I can't quite see what you are complaining about? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

If it's possible to get reception, why not take the Sky box back to your own country with you and use it there until the cancellation date - at least that way you'll get to use what you're paying for.0

The biggest thing here is you can leave sky but you have to write in to them to do it but early termination will apply at all times.
But if you flat out asked this person can i leave within 12 months and not recieve a penalty and they said yes then write in to customer relations get them to listen to the call and you might have your early termination fee wiped , otherwise im sorry but you pretty much have no choice.0 -
sky take recording of most calls you best bet is to find out how you get hold of the recording. if you sure the guy said you could leave early then make a deal out off it.
