Have booked to move electric and then the meter. Have also booked national grid to move gas pipe. Any suggestions for cheapest option for buying the boxes please? Apparently have to buy selves and fit before they come.

Hi HelenDaveKids,
Glad things are moving in the right direction.
You can get meter boxes from large builders merchants eg; Jewsons or places like B&Q.

Hi all new on this so please bear with me. Been looking into having my meter moved outside from kitchen to outside wall approx 2m away. The Pipe running to the meter is a shared pipe to meter then upstairs through ceiling to neighbour. Contacted National grid who then directed me to Scotia gas network as they own everything up to the box. They duly came out and said the meter was unsafe (during getting the central heating fitted!) removed the meter then said it would take upto six weeks to move it. Now just recived the estimate today to the tune of £680.
I asked what were the legalities of having my nieghbours gas running through my house and the gentleman couldnt give me an answer. it seems you pay for them to update their pipe work outside as i have the old steel pipes. I just wanted the meter moved to were the pipe actually enters the property on the outside.
Having looked around it seem i am not the only person to fall foul of the band alteration scam. If they maybe offered some intrest free option to maybe assist you in paying
sorry ranting on but seems we are being seen off.0 -
Hi HelenDaveKids,
I know this post is a little bit old but I'm with EON too and want to move my meters from under the stairs to front of the house. I'm am a bit confused about it all i.e do they just re-connect from the mains outside to front of house or take the inside connections outside (maybe this is a stupid question)
Would you please be able to tell me who you contacted (gas and electric) and what you did to get the ball rolling (any phone no. would be great) and how much did it cost to do the work.
Sorry for all questions
Thank you in advance!

Hi PixieBee
The advice Helena gave in post 7 above is still current.
If you contact us, we'll be happy to give you details of the relevant organisations you need to speak to.
These organisations will be able to discuss both the technicalities involved and the associated costs.
Hope this points you in the right direction PixieBee.
