So far all the photos and links are showing the wrong washers.
It seems you are right but I suspect most peeps mean similar rather than exactly this one.
You want a tap conn fibre washer . Much thinner.
Just make sure you use a ½inch one. ;)
Do tell, how does that plumbers mait work?
Much the same as PTFE in these circumstances.

    Cheers

    GSR.
Simple, it fills the gap with a horrible gunk that takes forever to clean off next time you want to work in that area. As used by bodge plumbers everyday. Why fix it when you can bodge it. ;)

Oh my! I came on here yeasterday, found this thread - which described what our toilet was doing - watched the video recommended, reserved a fluidmaster fill valve at B & Q, picked it up today, borrowed a couple spanners - and FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!!

I'm so chuffed! No leaks, problem solved - and undoubtedly at a fraction of the price of a plumber.

All this - and I'm just a wee Scots wumman!!!! Thanks so much to everyone who helped on this thread!:j:j:j:j:j:j
