Mr Mog has obviously got a uti.. and I can't get him in at the vet until Monday.. is there anything we can do to help him between now and then? He is peeing everywhere and seems to have lost control a little.. he is fairly senile as well which isn't helping.. he doesn't know what the litter box is for and is yowling at lightbulbs.. seriously..

I may wring his neck before Monday he is driving me insane.. I daren't put the baby down in case he wees on her!

This is probably no use, but are there any out of hours vets near you. I can't really think of anything . It's not like you can force mr mog to drink plenty of water and when we have urine infections, they can be really painful.
  • Hi, I'd really try to get him to the vet tomorrow - UTIs can be extremely painful and he will need treatment asap to help clear it.

He will quickly become dehydrated and 3 days (by Mon) is a long time to not be getting enough fluids.

Have you got a syringe - you could try to get some water into him that way but I'm afraid he does need to see the vet ASAP.

Fingers crossed he's back to himself soon

he is drinking.. I have filled up his jug and he is drinking far more than usual.. I explained to the vet what was wrong and they said the soonest they can see him is Monday.. :( I know he needs to be seen yesterday! but they were not very helpful.. This is the problem with a decent vet. :( (I rang PDSA and the 2 offices of the bestest vet and the cheap and cheerful one I use for neutering and vax)

I'll give them another nagging call tomorrow.. or set my mother on them.. she scares them!

Go straight to the mother option... the vet really needs to be forced into treating an unwell cat sooner rather than later. The poor animal is in pain and unhappy. I hope your mother bites!

You have a pet in an emergency situation, a very painful one at that! - ring the OOh vet and pay for it!

If you cant afford the vet, you cant afford the pet!!

Its not a case of the vet needs to be forced to treat - the client needs to realise they need to pay a hefty fee to get the vet out of bed! with good reason!

get a grip people- vets are professionals, they cost money, they cost more money past 6pm and at weekends - deal with it, or don't have pets!

Where was there any mention of the price? I would have thought calling that many practices and being told the earliest available is Monday isn't the same as people saying they don't want to pay. Especially when they are going to try again to get the animal seen sooner. Think you are being a bit quick to assume that there is a selfish reason behind wanting to ease the poor thing's discomfort.

    *********

When one of my cats had something wrong (and the appointment was booked), as soon as he went in the tray and tried to do something, I would clean his bits with a Johnson's babywipe. He didn't like being touched at all at first, but after doing it a few times, it seemed to soothe him and ease his urge to try again.

If not a babywipe, I suppose a little bit of cool water wiped over might help him.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

contact PDSA again as they usually have an oncall vet and tell them it is an emergency and that the cat is distressed

I would hope that they could see you before Monday

I agree with all the other posts suggesting that you get him in tomorrow. Sadly I've learnt that from experience- our male cat got a uti a couple of months ago and the out of hours vets said he would be fine until the Monday. By the time we got up on Monday morning he was extremely unwell and had developed a mucus blockage (although it was originally misdiagnosed as crystals). He had a few days on a catheter and drip before being sent home. And then it happened again after 2 days so he then spent another ten days at the vets! Thankfully his blood tests this week found that there is no permanent kidney damage and he is back to his normal self again, but it has been a very difficult journey for him and we really didn't think he would make it at one point (not to mention the small fortune he has cost us). Now if he ever shows signs of infection again he will be getting antibiotics straight away!
