    Try putting some cat litter in them overnight or for longer (it does leave dust behind so don't do it if you are worried about that), it absorbs odour from smelly shoes.

    Well, odour-absorbing cat litter might. Ordinary cat litter won't!

    I have to say mind, this was suggested for ones own sweat, not strictly speaking other peoples runny bits mind. Good luck.:)

    I'd spay the inside with disinfectant, the flowery smelling one. Kill any germs that may be lingering.
    I think that cat litter would only work if you didn't have a cat, imagine the problems when your cat thought that you'd given them a nice a new loo.
