I am a midwife, and can't see any probs with what you are describing, in fact I ate prawns a lot whilst pregnant. As always just ensure that they are well rinsed - it's the mayo in a sandwich that the HV should be more concerned about!0

hi, im a chef and im pretty sure its ok to eat prawns as long as you dont have a family history of shellfish allergies. i also think that most mayo sold in jars is no longer made with raw eggs, so is ok. its just home made mayo you have to watch out for (usually the stuff you would get in posh restaurants).0

I'm pregnant and I've just eaten some cooked prawns in a fishpie. Apparently it's ok to eat them as long as they're cooked and served piping hot (I think I might have read that off the Food Standards Agency website).0

If you want prawns eat prawns.
Yes, make sure they are fully cooked.
Prawn Sandwiches are apparrently a bit of a no no cos you don't know how fresh the sandwich is.
I was told during both pregnancies that if you fancy a prawn sandwich, make it yourself with jarred mayo.
Cooked prawns are fine.
BTW good luck with your pregnancy, is it your first?Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -
This page is really useful:

It says:
Foods you don't need to avoid
Shellfish, including prawns – as long as they are part of a hot meal and have been properly cookedHere I go again on my own....0 -
I would ask that HV where she got her information from. It drives me mad when health proffesionals give out info to vulnerable clients who take their advice as gospel and it is not based on properly sourced scientific fact. Prawns are very good for you and I can't see any reason not to eat them.
P.s. why does the word professional never look right no matter which way I spell it, proffessional?!earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:0 -
Thanks every one for your quick reply. There is a second portion of pawns and I will be definately eating them to day........ CHEERS
