Hi all

I've reached the age where I need an MPV two ferry the family around along with all the stuff that goes with them!

I like the Ford S-Max and the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.

The S-Max is my favourite of the two though more expensive. Found one that looks ideal - It's an 08 plate but has done 90,000 miles. One owner though and full service history.

Is that too high a mileage? Anything with a lower mileage creeps out of my price range.

The Citroens are cheaper, I just prefer the 'sportiness' of the S-Max.

Anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks!

Out of the two I'd go for the Ford but a Galaxy is probably better value for money, if not quite as pretty.

As spiro says, need more info.

    Thanks for getting back guys...

It's myself, my wife, 3 year old and baby. We have a Focus now (worth about £4.5k) which is just the right size, but once the pram is in the boot we're to full capacity. So as soon as we go anywhere and need the boot (shopping, parents, etc) there's no space left.

After p/x looking to spend up to around £3.5k.

We don't need the 7 seats as a permanent fixture, but will be useful for school rotas from September.

There is a thread on here about Anderson (?) selling several 08 Galaxys from their fleet for about £8k.

Thanks for that spiro, but I think the Galaxy is just that little bit too big for my needs.

Back to my original question though - Would you steer clear of a car that's done 90,000 miles after 3 years? Or is that not a problem?

30,000 miles a year is one hell of a school run.

If it's a diesel and properly maintained then no problem I would say, depending on the history. It's likely to have been a company car doing a lot of motorway miles which wont put as much stress on the car as doing lots of short journeys around town.

I bought my current car with 94k on the clock and it's now just over the 150k mark and the most expensive thing it's needed has been a bulb - other than servicing of course. Oh and tyres! And fuel.............

I think somebody linked to one of my previous posts.

Addison Lee are selling off their first lot if Galaxys at the moment, they seem to want mid £8 grand mark for one with around 90k, they are all black with autobox.

They also have loads od VW Sharons again all black with an autobox, they are from low £6k mark but with over 100k.

They rebuild all the autoboxes in the Sharons at around 75k, as the box is known to be temperamental. They have owned more Sharon auto diesels than anybody else in the UK, so know the problems.

I don't understand the issue with the Galaxy being too big but the SMax being spot on, they are almost the same length, the main issue being the roof height and the rear end tapering off rather than the square design of the Galaxy.

The Sharon is a little smaller as it is based on the older Galaxy/Alhambra platform.

Remember these are all 3 yrs old, Addison Lee has a strict 3 yr fleet policy.

But you won't get better value than an ex fleet MPV from Addison Lee.

I have seen 05 plate Galaxy/Sharon up for the same as the 08/57 plate AddyLee motors.

    What is your budget?

Ford Mondeo TDCi would be a better choice. Larger interior than the Focus, mahoosive boot, similar fuel economy to the Focus.
