Many of the board regulars will be aware that i was once a private hire driver in London and still have an eye out for an automotive bargain.

I have mentioned the Addison Lee VW Sharons that have been selling and mentiined that the first Galaxys will be going soon.

Well the first Galaxy 2008/08 with just over 100k is for sale on their website. Priced at a reasonable £8200 from memory.

Yes it is high miles but it is the new Galaxy, diesel, serviced above and beyond the normal schedule at Ford approved workshops. They have well over 2000 of these roubd London at the moment and have just put the 11 plates iut to work.

I think they are a good deal, but i expect to be flamed by the usual suspects.

If i was in the market for a full size seven seater then i would be straight down there, in fact if and when my ill health retirement comes through, seeing occy health soon, i will be dropping in there on my way to Cargiant.

I have had a decent enough career in the Ambulance service, but i think a stressfree life as a Private Hire driver is looking good, until i get the Knowledge of London finished anyway.

    ...Where are they selling them?...

From their own web - and bricks and mortar - site:

Sorry, yes should have mentioned they have their own website, they basically keep the vehicles for thre years then sell themon.

The only thing that concerned me about the older Sharons was the slight weakness presented by the autobox on the Sharon, Addison Lee have owned thousands of these and they adopted a schedule of servicing where they rebuilt the autobox as a matter of course at or near 75k.

I haven't heard of any such issues with the new Galaxy, but since the info' about the Sharon gearbox came from the horses mouth when a mate bought one for his wife, there is every possibility that they may be the holy grail of used car buyers, an honest dealer.

When my mate went round to buy one he let him testdrive 3 and chose whichever one he liked best.

I don't think you can go wrong these are, what, £22k new?

So, £14k under new, obviously AddyLee don't pay anywhere near £22k due to the number they buy, perhaps around 6/700 a year, every year, maybe slightly more as they have a fleet of 4/5000 and they replace the entire fleet at 3 years old.

Sadly for MSEers, the Mercs normally get sold before they reach the website.

Why do you think that anything, other than a big Merc/Jag/BMW used in this way would be a bargain. It's had its 10 year healthy lifespan squashed into the period before its first MOT. Oh, I see what you mean, there will be a glut of suddenly low-mileage, lost service book mpvs coming up.

Unless it is the Galaxy Zetec, then it will have a bomb-proof VW engine.

100,000 miles sounds quite low for a private hire
    are they left running 24/7?

Probably but at least the starter motor is like new, Only been used half a dozen times.

Wonder how much they pay, I guess they dont lose a lot even at those prices.
