smokers on long haul flights - tips?

hi
i'm flying to vegas in just over a weeks time, and i am already feeling stressy about not being able to 'ave a fag for possibly 15 hours:o
i'm thinking about getting some 'stop smoking aids' to help me though the stress
but never tried anything, i'm thinking patches, chewing gum, the mouth spray type thing but not sure which would be best?
i know smokers are like lepers and we are disgusting and we should be ashamed of our self etc etc but if there is anyone out there that has been in the same situation i'd be grateful for any tips.:)
thanks

I'm a leper too.
Thankfully for me - when I CAN'T smoke - like on a plane...it doesn't bother me since I can't - there's no option...so I just forget about it mostly until shortly before we land...exceptions are movies and TV shows with a lot of smokers (NEVER watch Mad Men on a plane - such a bad, bad idea).
If I did want to use a nicotine replacment therapy - I would choose one that I had to actively do something with - probably the mints...because then you feel like you're doing something...not just sitting there with a patch on thinking 'is this thing working?'
The gum and mints don't taste great though.
They do also have the nicotine inhalers - not the fake cigarettes that emit the vapour - but these things that you sort of take a hit off? (OK, I haven't taken a hit off anything in more years that I can count, but that seems a reasonable description). That might be an idea, as again, you'll actually be somewhat actively dealing with your cravings rather than passively?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
My brother recently made the same trip. He used one of those electronic cigarette thingys - seemed to work for him (he's been using it since he got back here too).0

Have to say, not smoking on a long haul flight has always been ok for me. I am an intermittent but used to be heavy smoker. Im long hualing in a couple of weeks.
Personally i wouldnt bother with patches or the like, its easy! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
No idea if they still have it but i got some nicotine gel from poundland last time i had to fly, you just had to rub it into your hands.
If i couldn't get that again i'd try the inhalaor as it would give my hands something to doThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

its so sad.

I skipped last time...skipped out the doors at T2 in Vegas with my lighter and cigarette at the ready. It makes my husband laugh (he does not smoke)...but heaven forbid our cases take a long time to come out on the carousel...that's when I start getting really tetchy...I CAN SEE THE DOOR RIGHT THERE.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
patches worked for me on a long flight0

Don't take an electronic ciggie - I was using a http://www.nicorette.co.uk/products/inhalator and the flight attendant (Virgin) tried to tell me I couldn't use it (they ARE ok!) coz they thought it was an electronic one.
Inhalator was fine - like smoking a ciggie, but not IYKWIM.

When I smoked I use to use Nicorette Gum to take the edge off. It really helped!
