    So I would be slowing approaching a green light....especially if it had been green for a wee while.....so that, if amber appeared I could stop [very] comfortably.

    ... and then, no doubt, these same people would be on the phone complaining about you being a minute late....

    Yes, I know the type you mean, they'd be among the first for the meat-grinder if I were ever in charge :D

    Not in reply to anyone else, but I'd just like to point out how annoying it is when your turn right at traffic lights and when the lights go amber 2 cars jump through in the opposite direction leaving you and probably another car stranded blocking the middle of a busy road :mad:

    This is when you fall back on the Highway Code as any good driver will, and proceed when safe to do so.

    What is the problem?

    [apart from an irrational fear of urban myth?}

    Once past the 'stop' line [having crossed on a green light, of course] a vehicle is no longer under the control of those traffic lights[unless complying with a filter].

    Green does not mean 'go'...for anyone.

    It simply means proceed if safe to do so

    So that covers you regarding other conflicting traffic, eh?
    No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

    ^^ That'd be great if everyone knew the HWC, but unfortunately JUST like the queuing on dual carriageways thing, most people don't.
    In reality you get some git leaning on his/her horn. :(

    Have you not developed that 'totally disdainful expression' for your face?

    possibly followed by that useful digital method of detecting which direction the wind is coming from ?
