Would a water meter put families off buying house?
Comments

i bought my house and it had just been metered only found out at completetion.
i would have much preferred to have been un metered as then i could try a meter but if i didnt want it i could revert before 12 months (this is with severn trent)
but to be fair the ratable cost is 40 per month i've paid 27 for 6 months then lowered to 20 for last 6, yet they owe me 65. :-) but i would have still liked a choice. (now i dont have to scrimp every drop of water )0 -
It would be a bonus to me. Our water bill almost halved when we got a meter. Family of five. I thought that all newly purchased houses had to have a meter fitted anyway?0

All modern/ new builds (since 1990 ish) have to have a meter but not all areas inforce the metering on change of occupier. STW don't for oneThere is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Meter was much cheaper for me. Can't have one here but I'd love one.0

i wouldn't bat an eyelid if a house had a water meter becuase i don't know any different.
i live on isle of wight and i think everyone has one. i'm 29 and from a very early age i knew we had one as i loved going into road with ym dad and shining the torch down the hole to see the reading. we only pay £40 a month for our water for a family of 5 , who have lots of baths, showers , hairwashes, dishwasher, washing machine. i don't know if £40 is alot but it is less than £10 per per , per month so were more than happy.0
