Just had some depressing house news - our estate agent thinks we should reduce the price by about £10k to stand any chance of selling. He's probably right but selling at that level wouldn't even give us enough to pay everything owing on the place, never mind walk away with any meager profit :-( We've already invested about £400 in selling this house (long and convoluted story about third party lenders) and I'm loathe to waste it but it looks like taking it off the market and re-assessing (and probably forking out another few hundred pounds) in the spring is our best/only option. Time to crunch the numbers when DH gets home and think about how much we really want to move.0

thats a shame about the house... as you say will be clearer when you crunch some numbers and really think about what you want xDebt Free Roll of Honor #598

Well after much number crunching and a good long talk we've decided we really can't drop the house price to the level the estate agent wants. We're going to take it off the market and try to build up a bit more of a financial cushion over the next few months. If the housing market hasn't changed by next Spring we'll try to rent it out for a year or so and hopefully when we do sell we'll be able to walk away with some small profit to put towards the forever home.
On a more chirpy note I've managed another payment to the credit card, so that's now below £375 and I have a few bids and lots of watchers on my eBay listings, so fingers crossed for a healthy profit at the weekend.0 -
Well done WhiteIris - sounds like you have worked out a plan with regard to the house!
your CC2 is looking to be going down and gathering momentum! fab!
I'm addicted to e-bay now, what a buzz when you list something and that red number turns to green!! lol or is that just me?!? Will keep my fingers crossed for big profits for both of us! xDebt Free Roll of Honor #598

I've started thinking about Christmas - I know it's still over three months away but I want to be prepared, make as much as I can and spend as little as possible. I've been pricing up some card blanks to get started on Christmas cards and they seem pretty reasonable but to get everything I need and something suitably Christmas-sy to decorate them I'm going to have to spend about £10. I'm trying to decide whether to splurge now and spend some of our ever diminishing spending money, wait until the weekend and use some of the eBay profits or wait until next month...hmmm0

how many cards will £10 allow you to make? would it be cheaper to buy them instead? if not I would tend to wait until some ebay profits come in. can you source the stuff cheaper? ive been buying a pack of 10 blank cards out of the pound shop, they come with envelopes too.Debt Free Roll of Honor #598

I actually managed to only spend a little over £5 - that'll make 35 cards, just about 15p each (I don't factor in the time to make them as it's fun). There aren't any cheap card shops nearby so I don't think I could buy them more cheaply - I also like giving a handmade card, especially as we can't afford to give many presents this year, it just seems a little more thoughtful.
I hadn't thought to check out pound shops for cards - great idea especially at 10 for £1 :T0 -

I feel a bit more positive about our plans to rent out the house and move in the Spring. I've had a fear about renting and something catastrophic happening to the house which we don't have the money to pay for but I've been guaranteed by DH that if we can't make this work being money-neutral (including insurances to cover lack of rent, money for problems with the house, fees etc) then we won't do it.
Christmas plans are also underway and hopefully it will be very cheap as I'm planning on making lots of gifts and I've been saving up vouchers earned from surveys to use as gifts.
Otherwise not much happening on the money front - ebay sales still pootering along, a few more bits to add to turbolister and then to top up the items listed for sale each week. We don't have much left in the grocery shopping budget - enough to buy milk, bread and fruit so it'll be a lot of store cupboard meals next week (we are quite stocked up thankfully!).
it's a very grey day here - just right for vegging on the sofa with a coffee and the TV remote...not that it'll work out that way (twins + sofa + tv remote + coffee = disaster) but I think I can just about manage the coffee!
