Thrifty Ways book - revisions or updates?

  • Hello,

Does this mean there will be a new book coming out?

Cleaning materials do cost a lot of money and would love some combo's of
cupboard stuff to mix and use.

Lost my job yesterday so every little helps.

Not that I'm aware of as yet. But if there's a second print run of this one we might be able to change a line or two here and there.

  • This is reeeealy picky but on page 182 there is the suggestion of making Christmas PUDDS in baked bean tins and wrapping them with a ribbon, this should have been Chrsitmas CAKES

Sorry to hear you have lost your job - and at such a time of year too!!!! ((hugs)) Posi vibes being sent your way that better fortune is around the corner.

While you await the new book, do have a look through our Cleaning Index which should prove useful in cutting down the expense of cleaning materials substantially :)

Alfietinker - please do *not* use cola - cheap/expensive/flat/fresh/branded/unbranded/or even FREE on any regular basis!!!! And certainly don't go out and buy it "specially"!!!!!!
This is the danger when passing on tips, unfortunately.

I first heard this tip many years ago (20+ in fact) and in it's orginal form, it was made very clear that it was a means of using up leftover, flat cola. At that time, cola/coke was particularly expensive and cheaper brands very scarce compared to nowadays; so no one would have gone out and bought it especially for that purpose.

Now, it's a little like Chinese Whispers in a sense, because over time, a little can get lost in the passing on/translation - that's only natural ;)
That is why sometimes - I see people recommending certain things and I absolutely *cringe* inwardly!
A bit like the times people will state that they put their frozen chicken in the SC and it hasn't done them any harm ... that may well be so, to date! However, if over time that got taken out of context and everyone was recommending it's ok to cook a frozen chicken in the SC as standard ... well ... I'm sure you can appreciate there would be an increase in food poisoning. Whereas, in this cola instance, there will be an increase in brown toilet stains not caused by natural waste ;)

People give tips in good faith - they haven't always personally tried them, or if they have, maybe not over the long term. This is why it is very important - as with any written info - to think carefully before following any advice/tips given. It's equally important to have trust in the "provider" of that information.

  • Hi, could I ask a favour?

Is there any chance someone could go through the tweaks above and let us know which pages they're on?

    Ta :)

Sure, will do. I won't be able to do it until a bit later though, is that OK?

Amazon have kindly delivered my book this morning. I've had a quick glance through it and it looks very good. Am now going to order another four as tree gifts for family & friends. Excellent book! Thank you everyone!
