PS 3 yellow light of death

wrap a towel around the console blocking all vents except the back one
then use a hairdryer on full power on the back vent for 3-5 minutes let it cool down for 10 minutes then it will turn on to get game
this solution will keep console working for a few days
Does thus really work or is it an old wives tale. I'm guessing if it's a hardware problem it may work. If it's a firmware problem it won't.
Thanks0 -

it does work google "ps3 hairdryer fix"
worked on my sons ps3 which had yellow light lasted 3 days more than enough time for it to be tested and given good cash offer by CEX0 -
I've tried the disc trick but apparently it doesn't work on all consoles and surprise, mine is one it doesn't work on.
SOGA doesn't apply to Sony as a wholesaler, only to retailer (which is my understanding). Sony introduced the £130 as the consoles were dropping like flys due to dry soldiering joints.
The console has only lasted 3 1/2 years. I personally would expect something of that cost built by a highly reputable company to last longer.
Maybe I'm just clinging onto false hope.
SOGA does apply to Sony, as they are the manufacturer. It was sony who were taken to court, which is why they do the £130 replacement. The retailer doesn't have any reponsibility for a 3 1/2 year old console, and would just pass it on to Sony anyway.0 -

It does work for dry solder joints in some cases. However I would strongly advise against it, as you could lose the chance of a £130 refurb.0
