mis sold data package now sent huge bill

  • I am having the same problem and was also told I would receive a text to say I was reaching the limit of my bundle, when I returned to a bill of £2927 customer services then said the text is not valid for the USA even though I had been told that at the time and only continued to use as I thought I must not have reached the limit. I have written to the Executive office at Orange and will await their response. I have just seen some info on Ofcom site which suggests that companies should have a limit for roaming charges to avoid "shock bills", it suggests it should be 50 euro, not sure how this applies to USA. Would be very interested to hear how you got on with this, have you had an outcome yet? Its horrible to be advised re this and then have Orange tell you you are liable for their poor advice!!!

Did you specifically tell them where you were going? Saying 'Im going on holiday' is likely to get the response 'Youll get a warning text' whereas saying 'Im going to the USA' should mean they tell you that there is no warning.

Also remember that texts can take 2 days to arrive plus a day or 2 for the overseas operator to send the call/data information to yoour provider means you may not get any warning they send until 4 days after you have hit you limit which if you are stream vidoes on Youtube could mean a massive bill despite the warning.

  • I was clear re USA as was customer service and she said " we have a bundle for the USA" etc...... Their advice was repeated to me re text and had she not said this I would not have gone ahead.
