So you have booked with one of the small companies before?

Yes, although without going through my past holiday bumph I'm struggling to remember which ones. Lowcostsunshine springs to mind as that was the one that upgraded the accommodation.

Bear in mind that some of the difference in price may be due to the fact that you are not being offered a package holiday but a flight and hotel booked separately. In which case you could try booking the flight and hotel yourself. You may save a bit more that way.

If it isn't a package I'd recommend that you take out some supplier failure insurance. Others may disagree.

Booking flight and hotel is not an option. Too pricey now as the flights are expensive this close to departure.

Keep out a wary eye for added extras too. Some companies forget to mention that luggage, transfers, in-flight meals etc. are all extra.

The best holiday we ever had was booked through Teletext about 10 years ago.

Flew to Los Angeles, stayed 2 nights at The Hilton, then a 5 day coach tour round the National Parks staying at 4&5 star hotels, then a flight to Miami to board a 7 day Caribbean Cruise. All including food and tips for less than £600 each.

We never established how they did it for the price - There were 5 flights involved and even at charter flight rates at the time our total price would not have covered the cost of these. We were on scheduled flights with Atlantic Airlines and Air France. The cruise was on a magnificent ship - it was the ocean liner SS France and it still retained all of the style and glamour of its days as a trans-atlantic liner. It was its last cruise before going to the far east to become a dockside casino.

We looked for the holiday again the following year to no avail, and we've never seen anything like it again at such a low cost. I believe the company we booked through was a subsidiary of Atlantic Airlines, but based in Manchester.

So some of the holidays on Teletext are superb value (or used to be!)

My GF booked through Teletext holidays on the spur of the moment. TT are just the broker, the company rang her back from an indian call centre. The price then went up approx £130 for the xtras (baggage allowance etc) - then they tried to say the flight times had been changed and they wanted another £20 once she'd agreed the price - pure scam, they backed down after she refused.

Personally I can imagine it being a nightmare (reviews are awful of the company when checked online) - oh well ...:money:

We look at booking through teletext 2 weeks ago, found what seemed a really good deal rung the number which was an independant broker who was very rude and once we gave them the reference code all sorts of extras started appearing, flights we no direct, taxes etc... The man on the phone even said "what did you expect for prices like these". At least he was honest, I soon hung up though. We've booked with flightline who weve used before and have always been really good.

Good luck with the holiday search.

Think we'll have to use 1 of the late deal websites
