I'd like a bit of advice....

We advertised our 4x4 on Dealerbid.co.uk and had an offer from a dealer in the north of England, they are a small company with a website and Ind Est premises, it's taken a couple of weeks to get the deal moving through issues at their end, delays, delays etc etc but had an email saying they want to sort the deal on Friday evening or weekend. We agreed 6pm Friday but he wants us to take it to his house ? also he's asked me to fax a copy of the V5 to him to get all the paperwork sorted before hand ? seems a genuine guy but a bit laid back and am now thinking that things don't seem quite right, bit apprehensive as it a £17k car
there's nothing on the net that rings alarm bells

any advice would be really appreciated

Do not, under any circumstances fax copies of any documnets, drive to his house or accept that amount of money in cash. You are leaving yourself open to all sorts of risks.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

So he doesn't buy or store cars, he acts as an agent.

  • I can confirm the same, he is a complete waste of time and money. offered to buy the car, it was delivered to him at my expence. He came up with some excuse to not buy it but offered to advertise it for me for £5 per day. in the end it cost me more to get the car driven back to my house.
seller beware and if you email him, look at the quaility of the replies. I should have seen it coming with his cut and paste defferent font replies.

It is about time that a thread was opened up properly hear so other people do not have a bad experience, as by the sounds of it he has been offering a lot of people money for their cars and then either totally ignoring them or worse still trying to then sell the car on their behalf and then charging for advertising the car (even though he has only had on his own webpage) at a rate of £5 per day and refusing to give back to the owner until the ad cost is paid. It is essential that these types of traders are brough to light and hopefully anyone else who has experienced this may add to this forum. Gary Topper uses a website called Dealerbid to target customers and will send an email asking how much you want for your car. He should be making the offer. However this price rarely comes to fruition
