Debt-free and Proud!
edited 23 May 2011 at 4:10PM in Debt-free wannabe
Almost 2 years after my lightbulb moment, (23rd of July 2009) and more than 2 months ahead of schedule, we are debt free :j

We owed nearly €25k at the height of our debts.

We were very lucky to have a decent income to commit to the debts in the first place, and once we got our good practices going we were unstoppable.

We had tried and failed for nearly 15 years prior to this to get out of debt, so we certainly know about the long game.

My major lightbulb moment came when I finally realised that all our debts were about us pretending to be something we are not. It took a while to get dh on board mind you, but once he was, he was fully committed to clearing them. In fact he convinced me to put an unexpected windfall against the debts this month enabling us to finally clear them for good.

All we have to worry about now is our mortgage. In future if want something, we save for it.

I haven't posted much recently, but this forum was instrumental in our success.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Hi frugalzzz,

Well done on becoming debt free. I hope your debt free journey lets others see it can be done and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks guys, it was definitely a surreal feeling today making that final payment against our debts. Dh says he can't stop smiling!

We're keeping all the good practices we learned on this journey and we intend to save a the speed we were paying down debt.

We've always wanted an Aga....better start saving then!
