Hi
I run and wear my iphone 4 on my arm in one of the bands. The other day my phone would work fine but when someone called I couldnt hear them but they could hear me. Took the phone to vodafone who sent it for repair. Got a call to say it was water damaged and was out of warranty and would cost £150 to repair  oh my god!!!! I only ran with it, not raining, mabe a little sweaty. Anyone else had this problem. Ive not paid it yet as Im still dumb struck by it all.

Across all Smartphones water damage more than likely due to condensation multiple posts on the subject . Sweat = heat on arm colder phone = condensation .

Excuse who knows and how can you prove its not water damage engineers report ??.

I took my laptop out when I was running and subjected it to temperature and moisture extremes and now it doesnt work... who do I sue?

Constructive comment! Just wondered if this was a bit extreme for sweat and water damage!
I dont run with it when its raining. I have an ipod ran with it for 2 years and no problems. Even ran in rain by accident. All still working fine. I just thought that water damage would mean dropping in water not sweating, and if someone else has experienced same issue.

even a small amount of moisture (sweat or condensation) can have big effects on the circuit board, its like a network of railway lines, if one part of the board rusts, its as good as dead :/

Crikey! Now I know have learnt an expensive but valuable lesson. Does any mobile insurance cover for water damage. I dont have any, as usual one of those things I was getting round to!

Not sure if it true or not but i was told phones now have a piece of "paper" in them that changes colour upon water touching it.

Your sarcasm might have carried some validity if it weren't for this exerpt from the official Apple Iphone Store where they are selling a sports armband for the Iphone 4...
Constructed of lightweight, washable neoprene with reflective details, the Incase Sports Armband Pro is the functional and secure way to carry your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS during a run or workout

I've not seen many laptop advertisements that focus on their use as a running aid, but it would seem that apple do promote the Iphone as a running aid, therefore by virtue of the Sale of Goods Act which amongst other things states that a product must be fit for purpose and as described.

If apple are promoting use of the iphone during running then the OP should every right to expect the product to survive a jog in dry weather.

Thank you for this. I thought it was just me noting the sarcastic comments.
Did you get this quote of the apple website? I would be interested in quoting this as I will be taking this further with Apple. I have a protective cover and I thought that the purpose was to have ipod, phone, internet etc all in one. Especially being a woman and running with a phone its one less thing to carry when using this.

Yes this was taking from a product description of an iphone armband on the official apple store. I cannot post links as I am a new member but if you go to apple dot com / uk and navigate to the apple store // iphone accessories // and then look in armbands you will find it.

As this isn't the iphone itself, but rather a related product designed for the iphone that is being sold on the apple website it isn't as strong a case as it would be if you found references to the iphone being suitable for running purposes directly but have a look around, you might find something. Good luck! :D
