Hello all!
I currently have a job, but I'm looking for a full time job. In the mean time has anyone completed any web design courses online.
There is one at the local college but it teaches you how to make a website in dreamweaver. I work within Graphic design and the arts I would like to create creative portfolio type websites, I may need to include animation. I'm not sure what to be looking out for.
If anyone has done a course and would recommend let me know. I'd be very grateful. =]
Thank you very much Little Miss xxxxxxx

Yea I was thinking that you can use Flash to make websites? I have used Flash for animation and it's great although I always forget what I'm doing!
Can you get courses that combine Dreamweaver and Flash or is it one or the other do you know?

flash it being largely replaced by HTML5. It is a waste of money to pay for a course, and there are no official qualifications on web design. You can get all the info you need simply by using the internet. wc3schools do some excellent tutorials. And whilst dreamwaver is ok, it's much better to just use textedit/notepad etc and learn the tags etc, rather than relying on DW to autocomplete etc0

Is it worth looking at web design degree courses? Are there many job opportunities available for people with a degree in web design? I'm not interested in doing it myself but it's someting my partner is considering...ie giving up a job with the NHS to retrain as a web designer. Would be good to know what people think the job prospects in this field are?0

Compared to many other fields in IT, web design is poorly paid IMO

You've got to have a LOT of skills to get into the higher earning brackets (coding/design/databases/user interface design)0 -
Not exactly directly answering your question but I always feel that experience over qualifications, fame (to the extent of being well marketed) over money is important; skills not paper. As a potential customer I do not really care who has a degree or done what courses - in fact, I do remember someone who is a Dr who designed the most basic websites (think 1998 style in 2005) at £200 per page. Was a joke.
The best way is to get yourself established - learn what you need to over time (learn as much to begin with but obviously keep learning as you go along), create a website that wont let you down (if you do web design people expect it not to be rubbish), focus on compiling a portfolio, and get registered on many freelancer websites (you will find it difficult to begin with; getting easier with more completed projects under your belt). You could also try ebay.
I would recommend you designing wordpress themes etc. perhaps a few freebies too... this not only will get your traffic to your website for people to download them but also you can get them to link back for copyright notice at the bottom letting people know who did the great design. Of course you can always add such to your portfolio.
I am quite a fan of flash but it is over rated. I think its important for a mix between HTML and Flash rather than a flash website with a basic html alternative if flash isn't detected/installed.0
