Considering I live on my own in an apartment and am out at work from 7-7 this seems a lot. I have paid water bills in the past few months of £18-20ish.

They have now said it is because they put a water meter outside in september, took a reading in November and then estimated what my water bills should have been since last Feb.

Are they allowed to do this??

anyone give me any advice?

  • The metered charges look high for a person on their own, you used 15m3 in 52 days which is around 288 litres a day, the average consumption according to Ofwat is around 135 litres per person per day.

You need to check that the meter reading is correct, and that the water company is reading the correct meter, and that only your property is connected to the meter. If that is all correct, you need to look atyour consumption and also check that there are no leaks.

Are the billing adjustments the (estimated) charges back to last February?

If they are charging you back to last February, then the payments you made of £18-20 since then should have been credited against this bill.

why were you not on normal water rates billing from February to September? What do your previous bills say?

I agree with Woby-Tide's comment. If you had a meter fitted in Sept you should have been on the old rating value system fron Feb-Sept. Could that be what the 'Billing Adjustment' amounts are for?

You should query the surface water drainage charge straight away; you probably should not be paying it at all - see the various threads on this forum.

I agree also that 15 cu mtr is 52 days far too much for a single person - you need investigate as stated above.
