They say clearly on their website: "You can upgrade your phone when you're in the final 90 days of your contract".
If the CS is following the rules is it really a reason for calling them 'shocking'?
If you are that desperate buy a basic handset for 1p and use it with the contract sim card until you are eligible for upgrade.

Is it not strange that after having such problems with a long contract you are eager to get another long one? What are you going to do if the new phone breaks in 15 months and you still have more than a year remaining of your new contract?

There are no deals on iPhones. Apple tell the networks what they can charge and they have very little leeway.

If you only have one month to go, I can't see they want £130 ?? A buy out is only the number of months you have left, I don't know of any plans that go for £130 a month??

It's not one month to go, it's one month till upgrade, i.e. 4 months to go.

they are probably in month 20 so have 4 months left, so in one month they can upgrade as they'll be in the last 90 days.

Try Voda or '3'. You will be happy with them...
...until you have your first small problem.

I'm with '3' now, had to call a few times, and never had a problem. Still, it's a 2 year contract, so time will tell.

    It's a strange one

I left Orange due to really poor c/s (on 2 of my 4 contracts).

Their customer service has been sent overseas and is really lamentable, yet 3 are overseas also and are really ok :exclamati

I now know Orange have really lost their way (I have been with them for over 11 years). They merged with T-Mobile and then promptly sacked lots of people in the UK and transfered the customer service (an aspirational term, not reality) offshore

That, together with the network issues make Orange a poor choice at the moment
    baldly going on...

    Eh?

Define "lots". It was a tiny fraction of UK staff. A hundred or so, may be less. Out of thousands and thousands still in the UK.

They also took office space in Manila that was being used by T-Mobile, which may seem why there are lots more offshore agents.

    And I'm still there ;)
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
