Tesco unlocking I-Phone

recently out of contract with Tesco Mobile for my I-Phone,as I was getting a poor signal sometimes no bars! I applied to Tesco customer services to get the unlock code so I could change networks.
Tesco were very unhelpful stated it could take up to 28 days to aquire the unlocking code, 28 days came and went no code forthcoming! I phoned Tesco customer services on the 29th day and was told the code had been sent to my text messages which it had not been according to my inbox.
I was put on hold for a few minutes and when the person returned I was advised that it would take a further 48hrs to get the code so to keep confusion to the minimum I asked for the code to be e-mailed to me to which they agreed!!
I think Tesco are being deliberatly obstructive I applied on the 18th April and am still without my I-Phone to date.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a problem of this sort ?

    You don't unlock iPhone's with a code?

Your network logs the request with Apple, they do their thing, you sync with iTunes and the unlock comes through that.

That's not what I was told by Orange yesterday - they said I would receive a code within 14 days by email, THEN I needed to put a different network's sim card in & then sync with iTunes which would confirm the iPhone was unlocked.

Orange charge £20 to unlock an iPhone

You don't unlock iPhones with a code. Your service provider applies to Apple who let them know usually within 14 days. Your provider texts you, you then put the new SIM in and sync with iTunes.
  • why am I still unable to use my I-Phone after almost a month if its so easy?

Orange tell you different things over the phone depending on the rep, you cant rely on them, complain if they dont sort it to head office.

Have you sync'd the phone with iTues in that time?
  • I have sync't I- phonewith no success, however, Tesco service desk stated that I had been sent a text to my mobile number, which I had'nt received.howeverafter a quick think I put my old sim card back into the I-Phone then sync't and the text mysteriously appeared, instead of sending text to my phone number they sent it to the SIM!!so I'm back in business but I'll need a lie down in a darkened room!:T

Don't quite grasp that last bit? You sim IS your phone number, a phone without a sim has no number?

Anyway, that doesn't matter, you've got it done that's all that's important...
  • Hi Jon1 I had already transfered my number to other network so was expecting the instuctions to be delivered to my transfered sim.
I had not had occasion to do this in the past and did'nt know what to expect! :o
  • Hi Tipsararity,

What Jon 01 has said is correct your iPhone is unlocked by Synchronizing it with iTunes. The Unlock Team do still send an email with instructions and advise on when the unlocking process can take place.

    Hope this helps,
