IIRC £36, and it only applies if it's going from one individual to another, not from a company to an individual.
I'm not sure if that limit is going down, as it is (at time of writing) twice the exemption for anyone importing for personal use via "mail order".
However as the exemption limit is going down to £15 (I think on the first), I don't know if the gift limit will be adjusted as well, I suspect it depends on if it's "double the personal limit" in law, or as a separate exemption and if they've included it specifically in the change.0 -
Custardy has been on here a long, long time and if you look through a lot of his posts he has given good, sometimes valuable information.
I would take on board more from the likes of him, who have obviously worked in the sector you are all complaining about, than some of you who have only been on 5 minutes and think yu know everything about everything. The nearest most of you have got to the postal service is them bl**dy big red things that grow out of the pavement or the postie who throws the rubber bands everywhere, which my dog likes to play with, sometimes with hilarious results !
It goes to show how this country is going, when you lot are moaning about having to pay HMRC chrges and admin fees ,when you are not making any savings when you can buy the same things in this country. What happened to buying british? Keep your money in this country, every other country seems capable of doing it.
And for God's sake, how long is this stupid post going to carry on for? It's been going for 5 years and you lot still havent got any further?0 -

Until people start taking responsibility for their actions or inactions and stop trying to blame RM/Parcelforce/DHL etc for charging for the service of collecting taxes imposed by the UK government.
All the info on import charges is easily found on the internet and can be checked by anyone before making purchases from outside the EU, yet it is still the fault of the importing agent if the buyers fail to read up on their liabilities prior to going ahead with a transaction.0 -
So true Shaun.
Seen a classic when I was in the office working as a postie. 2 DVDs with a custom charge because the silly woman had ordered them from amazon.com. instead of uk. I often wonder if she managed to get anything back or not, or if she returned them.
As custardly has said many times, it's up to the buyer to arrange to pay the customs fee rather than go through a courier.
I used to work for RM. Which I am assuming had the same system as PF (I could be wrong) . As soon as customs get their hands on the item, it becomes tracked all the way. Therefore more time is spent in dealing with these items as soon as they come out of mainstream mail, and that's just at delivery office level, I'm pretty sure more work is done with them before they get to that stage.
As for custardly being a troll ...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I can see his posts have been a bit dry of late, but can you blame him? He's had to say the same thing over and over because no one is listening to him telling you how to do it to avoid handling fees.
And just for the record, if you came into our office and said you were willing to pay taxes but not fee, then you wouldn't have got your item, it would have been marked as refused and returned.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
