My Freeview set top box appears to have expired and I'm considering the Humax PVR-9300T. I'm not clear whether you can copy from its HDD to a PC and burn a DVD. Please can somebody advise?

I'm fairly sure that the answer is no - I own two of these wonderful machines. However, in every other respect, these really are perfect pieces of kit. You can now buy them direct from Humax too! If there is a way of doing what you require, I believe it be be fairly laborious. However, as ever, I could be wrong!

I have one too & I definitely think it's a NO on the recording capabilities to DVD.
Otherwise fantastic machine, easily as good or better than anything else on the market and cheap via eBay too.
I also have the Humax Foxsat Freesat decoder, another great machine.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.

I too think the answer is no, but you would need to check with a forum which specialises in Humax for a more informed answer. I suspect they write both video and audio to the hard disk in a proprietary format.

I also like the PVR-9300T but for me it has the following fairly minor niggles:
    a) maximum of just 25 'series' which can be scheduled for recording
    b) audio can get out of phase with video if you are skipping forward on playback (it gets back into sync after a few seconds)
    c) odd and annoying placement of buttons to skip through schedules by periods of 30 seconds, 2 hours, and 1 day.

Other than that, well worth the reduced price by buying from the website as a 'manager's special'!

Thanks for your suggestion - I've found a couple of similar questions on other forums and it seems clear that its not a feature. Some people seem to have achieved it, but only by making new internal connections and with additional software. That's not quite what I had in mind!

These are refurbs for £80 if you`re not too bothered about HD.
They still carry a 1 year warranty.

    Or direct from Humax:

I have been using a PVR-9200T for years now, it *does* allow you to copy stuff from the unit to a PC, but it is a laborious task. Digital spy forums is worth looking at. LINK It was mainly for the 9200T, but may give some good info. One user created some software to do it, but I gave up after a few attempts.

Surely the days of recording anything is over.
Most programs are tripe and are endlessly repeated or you can get them on the Iplayer.

At least with Freeview you don`t pay for the tripe whereas with Sky you`re coughing up for it. :rotfl:

Why would you faff about with iPlayer and the like when you can just series link everything and watch it at your leisure - even months later!

As to the OPs original question, we used to achieve the same thing with the 9200T just by plugging it into the back of a DVD recorder and doing it that way...couldn't store it on the PC that way, though :(

I've bought one of these:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Stream-DHR8203U-Freeview-Set-top/dp/B003LLDK02/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308653489&sr=8-1

HD freeeview twin tuner etc etc

And you can copy to a recorder from it.
