i agree that with those dates you should receive 9 years worth of service. Just because HR say you are wrong means nothing, plenty of them dont know the ins and outs of their own role.
Call ACAS with all relevant exact dates and explain, they are totally impartial so if they also agree they could contact your ex employer to explain. Hopefully they will accept this.
If not your next step is to follow your company grievance procedure closely within the time frames set out, if you do not do this it can affect your payout if it goes to an employment tribunal.
Ultimately your final action will be to take them to an employment tribunal. Not as daunting as people fear.
Are you not represented by a union ? (this is not a problem, just less stressful).
