Crown question- After a dental visit.

I have just been to the dentist for the first time in 5 years, as i'm pretty scared by them.

I broke part of one of my teeth a week go.

The dentist tells me he will put a crown on my broken tooth, my broken tooth is the fifth from the front on the bottom set, so it can be seen when i smile.

My question is will he put me a white crown on? or am i going to end up with a gold coloured on?
I am currently exempt from dental charges and don't know if this will make a difference to what is used.

Most probably metal coloured , there is no compunction to put white crowns on back teeth.

I don't think your exemption from charges will make a difference, but back teeth are generally done in silver on the NHS - not sure whether the tooth you describe counts as a back tooth, i would guess so.

are you absolutely sure you can see it when you smile, I cant see my 5th back tooth.
Ask someone, dont do it looking in the mirror.

Molar teeth (6th from back) will not be done in white on the nhs anymore in England/Wales. Did you get it done some time ago?
The only teeth that will definately be done in white on the nhs is the front 6 top and lower (from front to third teeth back). Maybe the next tooth back if you are lucky.

OP I have got a crown on the same tooth as you will be getting one and for some reason the dentist gave me a GOLD ONE!

I have no idea why and never thought to ask as it didnt bother me at all. There is no way that this tooth can be seen when I smile so if I were you I wouldnt worry too much.

If the dentist insists on fitting a silver or gold crown and you still insist that it can be seen when you smile then why not just ask can you pay the difference and have a white one fitted?

I have a dentist appointment this afternoon, he's fitting a crown on a fifth upper. I never thought to ask . Good grief, I hope it's not gold! Mine's a freebie too.

If you are not happy with the color of the crown then the best thing to do is tell the dentist BEFORE it is fitted . Maybe then you too could pay the extra to have a white on fitted?
