And my daughter doesnt have a wardrobe as we used a cupboard in her bedroom as one! So I have to buy those.
Problem is, my lease is up on friday, thats my rent day, now if i stay here past then im going to be incurring rent. The workmen i spoke to who are working on my new house said they're looking at up to 10-14 days before theyre finished, so that will take me halfway through a new months rent!!
Could you move in with any family for the 10-14 days between when your lease is up and when your new place is ready? The money that could save you, could be put towards the cooker. As its for such a short time surely family would be willing to help out.
For the time being you could buy one of those reasonable, fabric type wardrobes for your daughter. Or have a look in the local papers. Lots of people advertise second hand furniture very reasonably.
Can understand you wanting to get settled and comfy. However everything doesn't have to be done at once. Get a feel for the place before you go about laying new carpets. Can the council not help with any grants?
Most importantly good luck with your move and I hope you and your family will be very happy in your new home

wardrobe issue is now sorted-the clothes rail is on its way!!! and it will be reused for her dressing up clothes when i sort her an actual wardrobe in a few months time when we're settled and i know where im at!
i cant move anywhere, we have all our stuff to take, the landlords etc are ok with me staying until we can move, im hoping that maybe it might be ready sooner-as in this weekend lol, then i can just get everything in there and not worry about too much more rent.
the council dont help with grants for carpeting etc, the advisor at the jobcentre gave me the forms for the crisis/budgeting loans. she said to apply for both, that as i have kids they may allow me the crisis loan for carpeting as it would 'ease exceptional pressures'-cant see it myself, but the worst they can do is turn me down on that one.
as for the cooker-think i may have found one on ebay locally to me, its a beko electric one and is at £70 starting price, no bids and they may deliver locally for a small fuel charge apparently, so im gonna keep my eye on that one!!
we will definately enjoy our new home, thank you!!!! xx0 -
When i moved into my flat year ago from mental health rehab, the council provided a white goods package (washer, fridge freezer, and cooker) It goes on your rent but if you claim HB it get included in that. Might be worth a try.
They have to rip up carpets for health reasons. Hope you get things sorted.:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0 -
Zoesmummy....is it a Council or Housing Association property? I work for a Housing Association and we have a charitable fund which is there to help people who are moving in with nothing - and we almost always buy cookers and stuff like that. PLEASE ask your housing officer if there is anything that they can help you with, because a lot of HAs and Councils have similar schemes.0

Regarding the carpets, why does it all have to be done now? Can you do half now and half next month? Or spread it out over 3-4 months to spread the cost?0

hi, as far as i know its a housing association property, the lady i spoke to at the council who told me i was being offered it last friday said i would get a letter from a lady at the housing association shortly-still waiting on that lol, though i assume i wont get the letter to go and view until the men have finished working on it. But I will ask about the charitable fund.
with regards to the carpets, im going to ask my cousins friend to come and give me a quote and see from there how much it will cost per room and decide from there what to do. xxx0 -
Instead of carpets I have laid vinyl tiles in patterned wood effect. I got them from the 99p shop, I did my living room for about £50. Alternatively if you have floorboards you could hire a sander and sand them down then varnish/paint them. Much cheaper than carpets.0
