cancelling pet insurance with john lewis

I phoned up and cancelled my pet insurance sometime either in dec or jan and cancelled the dd, i then set up with tesco pet insurance and have the policy documents which show this was taken out in january.
yesterday i received a letter through the post from john lewis telling me i owe them around £200 for my pets cover from jan-april this year. (which if i had cancelled the dd and they havent been receiving the payments, my pets wouldnt have been insured, so what am i being charged for?) i have phoned them and they claim to not have the telephone recording (surprise surprise!!).
Can anyone help me as I am not willing to pay for something i havent received.

What do you mean, recording?
It sounds to me that you are suggesting you only left a voice recording cancelling the policy. Never a good idea - you should have done it in writing.
Putting that to one side, £50 a month to insure your pets? Seriously?0 -
i meant that they couldnt find a recording of the telephone conversation, an yes £50 a month is expensive, hence the reason im not with them anymore.....0

If you have an itemised phone bill and know the number you phoned, you should be able to find the exact time and date that the call was made and go back to the company with this information. It may help them track down the recording.0
