Faulty RS connector

My son has a Samsung Galaxy Europa phone on Tesco that stopped connecting to the network.

It's been to Tesco repair centre where they've said it's a faulty RS connector and it's not covered by the manufacturers warranty, so they want £51.01 to repair it.

What is an RS connector and could the job be done cheaper elsewhere?
Here I go again on my own....

The aerial - just a guess if the phone is not picking up a signal.
Or it could be the power/usb connector.

    Does the phone charge?

Yes the phone charges up. The wifi works fine when he's in the house, it's just the mobile signal that keeps dropping.

An RS connector is a "Radio Standard Connector which is a pin socket as found on computers ...most popular is RS232 ...USB has realy taken over ....so as your phone won't have one and would be nothing to do with wifi they must mean something else.

I would ask them for a better explanation ;)
It's not just about the money
