Can someone please help me? First time seller on ebay and am trying to add V.A.T to the invoice but can't seem to get it to work, tried to add the figure in the discount/charges box but when i tried to recalculate it just disappeared. Have tried a forum search as well as looking in Q&A's. Prob something simple that I'm missing!
If I could figure this out and how to add a business account to paypal that has a trading name instead of my own name life would be much easier! :rotfl:

If you look right at the bottom of any page on ebay you should see a link for site map. If you click on that then I'm sure there will be something about changing to a business account. You will need to do this before you can add VAT.
In the mean time just say on each listing that VAT is included in the price.0 -
Don't press the re-calculate button is the answer to your invoice question, it doesn't work in the way you (and everyone else) thinks it should. To see if your addition has worked use the 'preview invoice' button before sending it.
Your Paypal business account will have to be setup totally separately from whatever account you are presently using with a different card, bank account, email address and name. You're only allowed to have one personal and one business account.0 -

Actaually you can change your personal account into a business account. Also you can have more than one business account.0 -
Op in order to charge VAT you must be VAT registered with HMRC. If you are VAT registered then you need to apply for VAT status on Ebay, which takes about 24 hours. You need to fax off various documents and once they approve your account, you can add VAT to the listings in a separate box. Your eBay fees will all be charged ex VAT.0

I am new to selling on eBay and I have been paying the VAT. I had to lower the price of something I have for sale and the VAT ate up my profit. Can anyone succinctly explain how to solve this problem (as though speaking to someone new)? Thank you.0

Ebay say you can't add VAT. It has to be included in the price shown, or sold at. Your buyer can (& should) refuse to pay more than the auction or listing stated.
Link to the relevant page.
The blurb says "As eBay is primarily a consumer marketplace, from February 20th 2008, users will no longer be permitted to add VAT to the final item price after the item has been won. "Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
Should OF, would OF. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.0 -

You need to allow for VAT in your profit margin0 -

Yes it does have to be included, but you can display the VAT rate.0 -
As a first time seller on ebay I doubt you'll even need to be VAT registered. Isn't the threshold something like £60,000 per annum?
Or is the OP an established business already and starting to venture out into ebay?.....0 -

This doesn't say if you are registered for VAT or not, but by the question I'd say not. Sellers who aren't registered for VAT with HMRC can't do anything about it. If an item is VATable and the seller is VAT registered then it is subject to VAT..0
