Problem using Halifax debit card for buying currency

I bought some US dollars online yesterday from BUPA which was offering the best rate at the time. I paid with my Halifax debit card and got a confirmation email from the company

Today I got another email telling me that transaction had been cancelled and when I rang them they said that although Halifax authorised the transaction they had apparently failed to confirm that the address my card is registered to was the same as the address I had given them for delivery of the currency.
I contacted my local Halifax branch and they confirmed that a hold had been placed on the money in my account but it had not yet gone out and would remain with a hold on it for 5 days for BUPA to claim it.

Has anyone else heard of this happening? I have never had any problem using that debit card to purchase anything online before.
