Selling laptop without hard drive

    If there is no hard drive in it anymore, then no, it won't have any place to install to will it?

    Windows installs onto the hard drive, so if you took it out and smashed it to bits then there is nowhere for Windows to install to (which is what it's telling you).

    (However, smashing the hard disk to bits probably achieved the desired effect of destroying the data.)
